The Residences at Rubi is a 101-unit, 5-story apartment building that provides a mix of workforce and market rate apartments in Austin, TX.

Situated in a growing sector of the city, this project is a welcome affordable housing option that used the “Austin Affordability Unlocked” program to allow for a higher level of unit density on the constrained site.

The design draws inspiration from the present-day aesthetic of Austin city-living, with exterior materials that establish a contemporary massing. A generous amenity center fosters community among residents with a lounge, fitness center, swimming pool with outdoor recreation space, and private office rooms equipped for work-remote needs.

Why Change from Wood Frame to Cold Formed Steel?

During the design process, the project was transitioned from wood frame to cold-formed steel, which offered a faster build time, reduced insurance costs, and added long-term value. By leveraging off-site panelized construction, the design reduced on-site complexities with a cost-effective solution.
